The short answer
Gongyuanqian / Beijing Road (公园前 / 北京路) is the default first-timer base. Cantonese gastronomy capital - dim sum, roast goose and endless street food beside the Pearl River, plus colonial Shamian Island and the 600 m Canton Tower. The easiest Cantonese base and a high-speed hop to Hong Kong or Shenzhen.
