When to book hotels in China

The short answer

China hotel prices are calendar-driven, not weather-driven. Golden Week (early October) and Canton Fair weeks (Guangzhou, April & October-November) move rates 2-5×; everything else is comparatively gentle. Book fair and holiday dates the day they're confirmed, shoulder seasons 2-4 weeks out, and big-city business districts midweek for the softest rates.

Which dates actually move prices?

Three booking tactics that actually work

1. Book the calendar, not the price. Chinese hotel pricing is far more predictable around fixed dates than Western dynamic pricing — Golden Week rates don't dip last-minute, they climb. For fixed-date events (Canton Fair 2026: Oct 15-19, 23-27, 31-Nov 4), booking early is the discount.

2. Trade location, not stars. During surges, the same budget goes much further two metro stops out: fair weeks in Guangzhou, one stop off the Pazhou line beats one block from it; in Beijing during Golden Week, Wangfujing holds its price but Guomao softens.

3. Watch the exchange-change windows. InterContinental and Marriott family rates move with corporate demand — midweek in business districts (Beijing Guomao, Shanghai Jing'an) often undercuts tourist districts for the same star level. Leisure districts price the weekend; business districts price the week.

What we don't claim

We don't track or quote specific nightly rates — prices, room terms and cancellation conditions are shown live on Trip.com at booking time. What this page gives you is the calendar logic behind the numbers you'll see.
