The short answer
Green Lake / Yuantong (翠湖 / 圆通山) is the default first-timer base. The City of Eternal Spring at 1,890 m - mild all year and the gateway to Yunnan: the UNESCO Stone Forest, Dianchi Lake with its winter gulls, and the springboard for Dali and Lijiang.
