Who should not stay where
- Xining is a long, narrow river valley — east or west end, your daily commute changes by an hour.
- Old town (Dazhong/Dongguan) puts the mosque quarter and food streets on foot; Haihu's new towers suit self-drive Qinghai-Gansu loop starts.
- Kumbum Monastery connections leave from the rail-station side (bus 909) — old-town stays make that transfer shortest.
- Most listed properties still need a passport-booking recheck; Sofitel Xining is the one confirmed to host guests from any country.
