Who should not stay where
- Nine in ten visitors are best off in Gaozhuang Xishuangjing — the night market, Grand Pagoda and Dai food are all at the door.
- Gaozhuang runs loud until about 23:30 with photography crowds and live drums; light sleepers should pick the old town or a resort zone.
- Songkran (Apr 12-15) and Spring Festival multiply rates 2-5x and sell out the good villas months ahead.
- Guesthouse 'free transfers' vary between pickup and drop-off and time windows — confirm which at booking, and recheck passport acceptance at small inns.
