Guangzhou to Hong Kong by High-Speed Train

TL;DR
A: Guangzhou South (广州南) → Hong Kong West Kowloon (香港西九龍) in 47-60 minutes direct, ¥185-215 second class, roughly 40-60 departures daily. The magic is at the arrival end: mainland exit and Hong Kong entry immigration both happen inside West Kowloon station — one building, one queue sequence, and you walk out into Kowloon.
What’s the short answer?
The Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong express rail does downtown-to-downtown in 47-60 minutes for ¥185-215 second class — and the border is co-located: you clear mainland exit and Hong Kong entry in one station (West Kowloon) after stepping off the train. It beats flying on every axis (the flight is ~4-5 hours city-to-city) and it’s the standard ending for mainland trips that finish in Hong Kong — including 240-hour transit itineraries, where Hong Kong counts as the third region.

The border, step by step
Buy one through-ticket; do immigration AFTER getting off. At Guangzhou South you board like any domestic train — no exit control. At West Kowloon you follow signs through mainland immigration (exit stamp), walk through customs, then Hong Kong immigration — all in one purpose-built hall. Allow 20-45 minutes depending on queues; your passport needs the same 6-month validity discipline as anywhere. Two cautions: ticket inventory is shared between 12306 and Hong Kong’s MTR system (a seat sold on one is gone on the other), and fares are quoted in ¥ on the mainland side and HK$ in Hong Kong for the same seats.

How do you book?
12306 app or Trip.com, exactly like domestic trains — your passport is the ticket (booking comparison, refund rules). Book the 15-day window for holiday dates; the direct ~47-minute departures go first.
What do you do on arrival?
West Kowloon connects to the MTR (Tung Chung Line via a covered walk to Kowloon station) and sits steps from the Victoria Harbour waterfront. Plan the Hong Kong leg with the Hong Kong & Macau 3-day itinerary, the Guangzhou side with our Guangzhou guide — and if Hong Kong is your exit point on a 240-hour transit, this train is the arc-closer.
